Known as underground savages, prospectors of the bc gold rush were rewarded handsomely for their toil. Rumour has it that in the saloons of barkerville there was so much gold dust shed from miner's clothes that a profit could be made just by sweeping the floor.

This experimental IPA pours a frothy white head on top of an opaque, light gold body with strong citrus aromas met with hints of candied pineapple, all in a resinous, cedar forest. Thanks to a complex grain bill and a healthy dry-hopping with victoria secret hops, this is a bold, well-balanced ale with a soft mouthfeel and a dry finish. You struck it big this time!

Our "New Caledonia Common" is a style reminiscent of the California common, a historic steam beer popular with those early settlers who rushed north to seek their fortune in the British territory known as New Caledonia (now British Columbia). Golden in colour, and lightly hopped, Mucho Oro is the perfect easy-drinking beer for any occasion.

The Cariboo wagon road was built to accommodate the thousands of prospectors, miners, and adventures heading north in search of gold. The journey was long and these road-weary travellers needed a place to rest and so began the roadhouse. For a few dollars, everyone was welcome to eat, sleep and enjoy a refreshing drink at these rough and ready pockets of civilization.

Strange creatures in an untamed land, the 23 camels tasked to carry supplies to Barkerville faced unfamiliar terrain and unwelcoming hosts. Impressively hearty, they terrified horses and ate everything from hats to bars of soap. The camels were soon let loose to fend for themselves.

They said he was crazy, but Billy Barker could feel gold in his gut. Down river, close to stout's gulch, he would stake his claim. Soon Barker and his crew pulled up 60oz of gold from 52 feet below the ground, making his the richest claim in an area henceforth known as Barkerville.

What makes this version of our annual sour series different? Well, more than 400 lbs of cherry puree is a good place to start! The result is a light, tart sour with loads of cherry and red currant notes, bright red colour and a subtle geraniol nose, reminiscent of cut roses. This refreshing Berliner Weisse will be the perfect addition to any patio and is sure to please both craft connoisseurs and those just getting into sours, alike.

While mostly used by black bears and less ferocious varmints these days, British Columbia's old caribou road was once traversed by fur trade brigades and cattle drives supplying gold miners who braved the rugged trail east to Barkerville and the promise of bountiful riches.

Painless Jones Schwarzbier

Barkerville attracted more than just miners, one of these industrious spirits was black pioneer William Allen Jones. After graduating from college in Ohio, this formerly enslaved adventurer emigrated to Barkerville where he became BC's first licensed dentist. Through his use of modern medicine and shrewd advertising, he became known as Painless Jones.
